Saskia Vredeveld’s films and photographs
Saddened to read about the loss of one of the characters from our documentary ‘Across the Border’.
The first South African has been killed in north-eastern Nigeria, where he was participating in the fight against Boko Haram. Leon Lotz, an apartheid-era Koevoet operative, was reportedly killed in a friendly fire incident when a Nigerian tank destroyed the wrong target
We spent several days filming Leon and his family in 1998.
Our condolences to the family.
Saskia was invited to speak at the International Women’s Forum in Johannesburg, May 2015. On stage with Dr. Joyce Banda, former President of the Republic of Malawi (2012 to 2014), and Malawi’s first female president and Africa’s second; Bridgette Motsepe Radebe CEO of Mmakau Mining (Pity) Ltd, is one of Africa’s first black female mine owners.
In December 2014 we received money from Dutch Film Fund to write the treatment for the first Afrikaans feature film to be produced in Holland.
Our next feature length documentary ‘Fools Paradise’ has received development funding in December 14 from the Dutch Film Fund and the Media Fund.
The film is a road movie through South Africa, travelling from Cape Town to Amsterdam in Mpumalanga. And passing through all the Dutch town names. We will be questioning its colonial past, but at the same time look into problems the country is facing today. Please contact us if you have an urgent story to tell.
